Apache OpenOffice is an open-source office productivity software suite containing word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics, formula editor, and database management applications. OpenOffice is available in many languages, works on all common computers, stores data in ODF - the international open standard format - and is able to read and write files in other formats, included the format used by the most common office suite packages. OpenOffice is also able to export files in PDF format. OpenOffice has supported extensions, in a similar manner to Mozilla Firefox, making easy to add new functionality to an existing OpenOffice installation.

I downloaded and tried to install the english dictionary of Marco via the Extension Manager. It appears to install and if I try to add the dictionary twice it ask for overwrite, but it only gets installed locally, never asking if i want to install it for all users, and then restart the program as asked to find that it is not installed at all. How can I solve this problem and install any language dictionary?. (Currently using Manjaro, Im a bit newbie with this OS but worked before in other Linux without this issue)

Thanks, this confirms where I thought the entry should be. Currently all the options are checked. For dictionaries, there's Standard (all), business (all), soffice (all) and IgnoreAllList (all) . Nothing appears to reference the new dictionary extension. Editing the IgnoreAllList shows the language as All, and not sure how to use the entries on the New button. Do I need to add an entry or change something? Help much appreciated.

I cannot install the latest english spelling dictionary. I get this error message every time for the last year or so, any ideas please?"Failed to read key element in backenddb.xml"I also get a path to find the file but not proficient to do anything with it once found!!I am on Windows 10 and Open office is otherwise up to date.

I had the same problem with the "C:\long file path\blah blah\ does not exist" error message, basically had to create the last couple of folders in the path, paste the downloaded file into place and also change the name of the file to just "dict-en" to get the Extension Manager to work. Refer to the comment on page 2 below from "Anonymous" on 10 Sep 2014 for step-by step instructions, but now also add the bit about changing the filename.

I'm really grateful for this open-source software and all the effort people put into it, it's amazing, but please please, on behalf of all the ordinary people out there just like me who have been driving themselves crazy trying to install this extension and hitting the same problem SINCE 2014 at least!, couldn't one of you clever software types fix this?

I've found the best way to do this, is to DL the one you want; then, with Openoffice _closed_ double click on the extension. That will ask you what you want to open the software with. Select Open Office.

I have tried to install this extension repeatedly using several methods: opening directly with the extension manager, saving it on hard drive and thumb drives, saving it to the desktop...and each time I get the same error message: "Add extension(s): C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\svvnm4.tmp_\dict-en.oxt does not exist." and it refuses to install the extension. Dell Studio laptop with Windows 10, OO 4.1.2. Now, not being particularly tech-savvy I have no idea what this gobbledigook actually means, but my first reaction is, "Of course it doesn't EXIST, I'm trying to CREATE it, that's the whole @&%$)(!$!@%+)%))(* POINT!!!!!!!!" Very frustrated, especially as it seems to be the only English language dictionary or thesaurus without, "This extension has not been updated for a long time, may not work with current versions of OpenOffice" plastered all over its Extensions webpage. Any help would be deeply appreciated...I'm a creative writer and poet, love my OO, but I kinda NEED an extended multidialect dictionary like this and I kinda NEED a thesaurus, which so far I haven't found any at all that "has not been updated in a long time", etc.
